The power of the dark side 20/10/2010
Before taking my final steps over to All Grain brewing, better known as the "Dark Side", I have decided to further my brewing experience by progressing from Beer Kits to Extract Brewing. Extract brewing allows a keen homebrewer, and in my case a keen homebrewer on a budget, to move towards their ultimate goal without breaking the bank and being shown the door!
When extract brewing, you still rely on buying manufactured malt extracts to make your wort i.e. rather than mashing grain. The options available are liquid or dried malt extract, which is then bolied up with additional speciality grains and hops to build colours, flavours, aromas and much more.
This is the route I will be taking for the next few months and I am planning my first extract brew to be a Stout. I will post the recipe and hopefully some pics of the brew day in my Brew Day Blog.
